Floating by our definition is the use of a sensory deprivation chamber (float pod in our case) to prevent external stimulation from reaching our brain. In other words no light, no sound, and no touch. This allows you to reach a state of rest and relaxation not obtainable in any other environment. Besides the stimuli block, you are floating in around 200 gallons of water to which 1000 pounds of Epsom salt has been added. This makes the water extremely buoyant so there is no need to know how to float because the high concentration of salt does that for you. This is basically a zero gravity environment. There is near to zero physical pressure from gravity exerted on your body. As your frame relaxes, your spine has a chance to fully decompress. Your muscles then can release any tension they’re holding. The Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) saturated water also has a natural anti-inflammatory effect. Floating regularly can reduce swelling and stiffness in achy joints. There are many benefits from being in such an environment as this. Here are just a few:
Stress and anxiety reduction. Without external stimuli, your body's anxiety response is naturally interrupted. This reduces the production of stress hormones and calms the mind.
Next is relief from pain, including back pain, muscle tension and headache.
Floating also has been shown to improve concentration and creativity. Great for students!
Improved cognitive functioning and mental clarity
Floating improves athletic performance and speeds the healing process, great for recovery from extreme workouts.
Pain relief during pregnancy
Improves quality of skin / detoxification
Lowers blood pressure and heart rate
Increases immune system functioning
Floating has also been shown to help with the management of sleeplessness.
Floating promotes total calm and deep relaxation. Like a total system reboot.
This is just a short list of the many benefits of floating!
